"Sedov" returned to its home port
On the eve of the great holiday a training sailing ship of Russian Federal Fisheries Agency - barque "Sedov" - got back to the home port of Murmansk
Sailors were met with full honors, because b the first stay of the barque in the home port since 2010 became a notable event in the framework of the celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of the Victory.
The welcoming ceremony of "Sedov" was attended by top officials of the region, the commander of the Northern Fleet, representatives of public organizations, citizens, relatives and friends of the students enrolled in higher and secondary educational institutions.
"Of course, this is a great event for Murmansk, "Sedov" made a long way, it is very symbolic that she came on the eve of a sacred holiday - said the governor of the Murmansk region Marina Kovtun. - The pride overwhelms me, as the head of the region for the fact that we have such a beautiful ship, for our students who always train worthy on this vessel".
"Next is the icebreaker "Lenin "- the first nuclear-powered icebreaker, “Sedov" is the largest sailing ship in the world. And is it possible to come up with better evidence that Murmansk is the gateway to the Arctic? I think that says it all, "- concluded the head of the region.
As the captain of the legendary ship said, a training voyage on the routes of the Arctic Allied convoys and memorable places of the Second World War proceeded as per normal.
"That is without serious complications, - said Viktor Nikolin. - Guys "got salted", so to speak. Shook slightly – it blew up to 8 points."
Rolling was not a severe test, it cannot be said about the cold. According to the participant of the voyage, MSTU student Tatiana Zhurbyk it was not easy to study, work, and even sleep in low temperatures.
"We had studies and studies with the boatswain and the work - there was a lot of work - says Tatiana. - A lot of night watches and we could study generally at night. Very little free time - we almost didn`t have it. It was cold when we came from Germany - it was cold to sleep, and in the morning it was cold to go on parade too - it was very difficult. The girls, by the way, were not cut any slacks. Just climbed to the masts, rolled the sails, worked together - and there were no exceptions."
"Maritime training is a test, and passing this test, comprehending storms and sail rush jobs, they understand how tightly they are tied to the sea, - explained the rector of Murmansk State Technical University Sergey Agarkov. - Maritime training without such vessels as "Sedov" is probably impossible. We want port call of "Sedov" to become a tradition. But there are a lot of activities in which "Sedov" is engaged on international programs. Today there are very serious programs, in which we have to perform state functions, presenting a great naval power Russia at various events. Each year must be accompanied by the arrival of "Sedov" in the home port of Murmansk. We will strive towards this."
