«Mir» arrived to the capital of the Arctic
"Mir" was built at the shipyard in Gdansk in 1987. The ship's length is 109.6 meters, the draft is 6.6 meters, the total area of sails is 2771 sq m, the height of the middle mast is 49.5 meters. It accommodates up to 200 passengers. The vessel set sail to its regular voyage from the northern capital on April 28. As previously reported by the University Rector Sergei Baryshnikov, students of the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping pass training on board a sailboat, as well as students of the Moscow State Academy of Water Transport, the Volga State University of Water Transport, Nakhimov Naval School and other, writes news agency PortNews.
Sailboat "Mir" will stay in the seaport of Murmansk tentatively until June 6, and then will continue its historical and commemorative expedition dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
According to Rosmorport, Arkhangelsk is scheduled as the next port of call of the sailboat, where the vessel intends to enter June 11. After visiting Pomorje the sailboat will get back to Murmansk in late June.
