Immediately after the Great Patriotic War, on October 16, 1946, the Naval Museum of the Northern Fleet was opened in the premises of the garrison officers' house. In ten halls of the museum exposition, with a total area of ​​1200 m2, materials are displayed reflecting the history of the Northern Fleet from its creation to the present day.

In the museum you can see models of ships, weapons, flags and banners, personal belongings, awards, documents and photographs of sailors, maps and works of fine art, letters written from the front.

Work on collecting exhibits began back in 1943 under the leadership of Senior Lieutenant Fyodor Petrovich Drachkov. The museum opened with an exhibition entitled "Defense of the Soviet Arctic during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945."

Today, over 65 thousand exhibits have been collected. The expositions include: the history of the development of the nuclear fleet, surface ships and naval aviation, as well as the entire Northern Fleet as a whole: "The emergence of naval forces in the northern part of Russia. 1693 - 1922", "The creation and formation of the Northern Fleet. 1923-1941", "The merits of the Northern Fleet in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945", "The Northern Fleet - the defender of the sea borders of Russia. 1945 - today".

The materials are presented about the first commanders of the Northern Fleet, including: Zakhar Aleksandrovich Zakupnev and Konstantin Ivanovich Dushenov, twice Heroes of the Soviet Union: Boris Feoktistovich Safonov, Aleksandr Osipovich Shabalin, Viktor Nikolaevich Leonov.

Here are also the works of the sculptor Lev Efimovich Kerbel, who served in the Northern Fleet during the Great Patriotic War. A special place in the exhibition is given to the modern ocean fleet. Visitors to the museum begin their journey through history in 1693.
